Averian Book the first step

People

The people who sell it are the people who deliver it.

Averian is led by two directors who have spent their careers inside the industries they advise — one on strategy and the boardroom, one on technology and assurance. Beyond them, delivery is by PODs.

Alan Carey

Chairman & Chief Executive

Strategy, transformation and board advisory. Twenty-six years turning strategic requirements into things that actually get delivered.

Alan works with chief executives and senior management teams to align operational process with corporate strategy. His strength is translation: taking a strategic requirement or a business model and turning it into something practical and deliverable through analysis, design, planning and delivery.

He has advised at national scale in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, run market entry for an energy supplier in Ireland, rebuilt delivery inside an FDA-regulated bio-technology plc, and founded and chaired two software ventures of his own for the energy sector. He has advised fifteen high-potential companies that have between them raised over €182m.

He leads the Strategy & Transformation practice and holds the CSO-as-a-Service engagements. Board Boost seats are taken by whichever principal the gap calls for — Alan where it is strategic or commercial, Bernard where it is technical or delivery.

Bernard Carroll

Chief Technology Officer

Software quality, validation and CTO-as-a-Service. Co-founder and practice lead for Averian SWAT, hands-on through the full evolution from mainframe to cloud.

Bernard leads the SWAT practice and the PODs that deliver it, and holds the CTO-as-a-Service engagements. He is a software testing and validation specialist who takes a consultative approach: the objective is not simply to pass a release, but to leave the client’s delivery organisation measurably better at building things that work.

He has managed the software analysis and testing of programmes worth over €50m and €100m in MedTech and FinTech, and has held an independent Digital and Data Quality role inside a top-five global pharmaceutical manufacturer since 2020, across three manufacturing sites — with deep GxP computerised system validation experience and a hand in that manufacturer’s own rollout of Computer Software Assurance.

Delivery

PODs, not placements.

Beyond the two directors, Averian delivers through PODs — small, dedicated, cross-skilled teams drawn from a network of certified associates, accountable for an outcome rather than for filling a seat.

We do not carry a bench, and we do not staff an engagement from one. Specialists are sourced to the problem — automation, IoT, security, AI, validation — and the principals stay on the work throughout. It is a deliberately unfashionable model, and it means you are never paying for someone to learn your business on your time.

Not a proposal, not a pitch deck — a short conversation, then a written view of how we read it and what we would do about it.
